There are many causes of facial swelling such as surgery, food allergy, antibiotics, burn, injury, eye infection, weight gain etc. and the time range of swelling varies according to the cause behind it. In severe cases, increased facial swelling is also responsible for causing a problem in eating, talking, breathing and affecting other day to day activities. Here are some tips on how to reduce facial swelling.

One of the best facial swelling treatments is the use of cold compressor. Use of cold compress helps remove the heat of inflammation. Just take some ice cube in a plastic bag and wrap this bag in a clean towel. Apply it on the face for few minutes, several times a day.

Another important point to be noted is that – always try to keep your head elevated. Use two to three pillows beneath your head wile sleeping or taking rest. Also, try to limit your salt intake. The kidneys retain salt which can cause facial swelling. Try to consume diuretic substance like tea, coffee, water pills, etc.

Egg white is also beneficial for reducing facial swelling. Apply the egg white from the shell and leave it to dry before washing it off. If you are suffering from swollen eyes or swelling around eyes then you are advised to use cold tea bags.

If your are suffering from swelling due to surgery or insect bite or from allergy then you can still use the remedies listed above and in case the swelling is severe and painful, one must rush to a medical practitioner to avoid any further complications.
